Bring the Beach Home
I have always been an artist. As a child I was always interested in drawing, colouring, and painting. Art was always my favourite subject in school and when it because a chosen option in Junior and Senior school, I always selected that subject.
In university I pursued a degree in interior design, but after a year in the program I realised that my passion was in the making of art. I switched my major to the fine arts and finished my degree exploring still life and portraiture through drawing and painting in oil.
Living on the Sunshine Coast has been so influential on my art practise; I have never before felt so inspired and had such a continuous flow of creativity.
Since we are so fortunate to live near the beach, I try to go each day. It’s where I find peace, feel joy, reset perspective, spend time with my husband, or ponder in solitude. The beach is the magical place of my dreams.
Along these walks I take photos (a ridiculous amount—according to my husband)! I paint from these images when I’m back in my studio, recreating the beauty and sentiments of my experience studying the light on the ocean waves.
My seascape pieces are inspired by the different periods of light throughout the day. Each work captures a moment in movement and colour.
Rhythmic skies, forceful waves, smooth sand and bold horizons take us back to that happy place, transposed to time a of joy and tranquility.
Each work is painted in oil and/or acrylic paint on deep edge gallery-wrapped canvas so that the image continues around the sides. They are ready to hang and brighten any space in your home.
My website is up and running and well-stocked with numerous works in various styles and colour schemes.
I have chosen the slogan, “bring the beach home” to compliment my work because that is exactly what I hope my work evokes. I want everyone to have the pleasure of looking at the sea, whether you live on the coast of Australia or in the prairies of Alberta.
